Rygar is a Dutch musical project, creating the Spacesynth music, founded in 1988 on the initiative of Michiel van der Kuy, also a member of the band Laserdance.
History
Rygar was established as one of several parallel music projects created in the 2nd half of the 1980's 20th century by Michiel van der Kuy. Not all tracks produced in his private studio could fit on Laserdance, Proxyon or Koto albums released by external labels. Part of van der Kuy's repertoire was released through his own label, Made Up Records. In addition to the songs, branded with the names of the singers, two instrumental tracks Star Tracks and Spaceraiders were released under the brand Rygar. The name came from the popular platform game available on slot machines at the time.
Rygar's first album, The Album, was released in 2001 by Made Up Records. Then Michiel van der Kuy joined forces again with Rob van Eijk, with whom he had previously written songs for Laserdance and Proxyon. The result was first two albums of their new music project Area 51, followed by the second album by Rygar - Modulation, released in 2012 by Space Sound Records.
